Lowndes County Collection - Premium Hoodie
The Lowndes County Freedom Organization was built in 1960s Alabama to turn the newly gained right to vote into real power for Black residents, with the goal of electing their own leaders and controlling their own future. In need of a clear symbol for new voters, many of whom could not read, the LCFO chose the Black Panther. A symbol of strength, self-defense, and dignity — calm but always ready to strike when threatened. Member Ruth Howard Chambers designed the original Black Panther which would evolve & continue to represent the Black Liberation movement as a whole for decades to come. This collection features designs from literature, billboards & posters from the LCFO & its movement. Sadly most of the graphic design from the original LCFO movement is uncredited. Our hope with this collection is to keep the legacy of the LCFO alive — Organizing, voting, and building power. BECAUSE CONTROLLING OUR OWN FUTURE STILL MATTERS.
